Beef and Butternut Stew

Beef and Butternut Stew

Apparently there is such a thing as “stew season” and it is coming to a close, according to various sources such as the food magazines I read in grocery store checkout aisles.

I’d like to point out that, no matter what season it is, smack dab in the middle of winter or a sunny summer day, sometimes, I still like to have a hot meal here and there.

I mean, yeah, it’s not freezing out – our cold spell lasted all of two weeks this year, anyway – but that doesn’t mean that I shouldn’t make something delicious out of these wonderful ingredients that just happen to go so well together.

Seriously.  Do you even know about beef and butternut squash and peas and sage?  They’re like a fantastic four of the food world.  They kick some serious tastebud together.

I had to share it with you now, because, well, you need this in your life.

Besides, it’s kind of St. Patrick’s Day today, and I think I’m somehow celebrating my heritage by way of making a stew in mid-March!  Does that make sense?

Anyway, all I know is, when you make a batch of this, you’ll either have a week of delightful meals for yourself or a really pleased family to serve this to!

May Asparagus Recipe Roundup

Did you know:  Asparagus is technically a type of grass?

But first.  My everyday favorite recipe.

Thai Noodle Bowl with Carrot Sauce

Thai Noodle Bowl with Carrot Sauce

First of all, I love Asian food.  Well, at least I think I do.

I’ve never actually been to anywhere in Asia.  The closest I’ve been is Greece… and they primarily serve Greek food there.  But I do love the Asian food I’ve had here in the US – whatever that counts for – and I think it’s pretty dang good.

I’m a fan of all the different spices, sweet, sour, umami flavors going on.  It’s the sauces, the broths, the way meat or tofu goes with various noodles or rice, and all those fun vegetables!

We could definitely sit and discuss the awesomeness that encompasses Asian food for a while.  I’d tell you about my thing for raw fish (my mom says I’m like a bear,) and you could tell me how a real Japanese dashi is made… it would be great.  But, alas, I’ll have to save the in-depth discussion for the comments.

6 Healthy Pumpkin Recipes

6 Healthy Pumpkin Recipes

Christmas is coming!  It is, in fact, only 6 days away... as this 12 Days of Christmas countdown keeps reminding me.

I've been doing a lot of shopping and planning this week - erm, kinda last-minute, I know - I still have yet to enter Christmas season in the truly organized and proactive fashion that I always aspire to.  But it's (mostly) done now, and I'm starting to get excited about the presents!

I just looove picking things out for my friends and family.  I'm not saying I'm the best gift-giver on the face of the planet... but I do so cherish the opportunity to apply my knowledge of the people I care about to something tangible.

You could legitimately say I get my kicks watching peoples' faces opening the stuff I thoughtfully picked for them.  Does this make my gift-giving a little selfish, in a way?  Probably.
