Easy Egg Salad Sandwich Stuffing (Tuna, Salmon, or Chicken!)

Easy Egg Salad Sandwich Stuffing (Tuna, Salmon, or Chicken!)

We all have our family traditions.  And traditions are the stuff of childhood memories and the center of every holiday gathering, no?  So when it comes to traditional recipes within the family, there are certain ones that you just know are going to stick around.  You know, for better or worse.

I love my mom’s traditional New Year’s Lemon Bundt Cake.  That one is for the better!  I swear I’ll never get sick of seeing that one come around.

My grandma also has this adorable tradition of bringing olives and sweet gherkins (little pickles) to every holiday.  That one is a good one in my book – just because it’s a very my-grandma thing and, of course, brings back all kinds of childhood memories. (Ahem… eating pitted olives off my fingertips!)

There is one though, that comes around every Easter, and - let’s be honest:  We could all really do without!

Whole Wheat Sandwich Bread

Whole Wheat Sandwich Bread

There is just something about a fresh-baked loaf of bread.  Sure, it’s super easy to grab a loaf pre-baked and pre-sliced at the store, but it is exactly 874 times better to make your own.  Because, 1) You know all the ingredients in it.  2) It tastes better.  3) You can bake extra and store it in the freezer for quick bread needs.  4) Bread makes a great gift + people are always impressed by homemade bread.

Also, it makes me feel kinda awesome whenever I can trade out a store-bought item for a homemade one.  I do this as often as possible.  [Check out them Homemade Fig Newtons.]

5 Meatless Main Dishes

5 Meatless Main Dishes

On the 5th Day of Christmas, FitCakes gave to me... 5 meatless main dish recipes!

As the countdown continues, I thought we needed some healthy/hearty meatless dishes to keep us warm inside, you know, to help get in more plant-based foods without constantly resorting to salads.  Just a guess buuut... if you can see snow outside/ it's less than 65 degrees in your house, you MIGHT be more into hot food right now.  Bonus:  These recipes seem more like comfort food than health food, so no feelings of "missing out" on traditional holiday indulging should occur.

On the topic of traditions, what could be more traditional to Christmas than decorating the tree?
It's been a tradition in my family for years to get ornaments for our Christmas tree whenever we go on vacation or do something really memorable together.  This translates to a really interesting looking tree.

There are just TEN days until Christmas.  Does that not blow your mind?

I think I just heard an explosion - I'll take that as a yes.

From now until New Years, the days are sure to be filled with lots of parties, family/friends over for dinner, and neighborhood Iron-Chef competitions.  Right?

Alright, the neighborhood Iron-Chef competitions aren't a thing.  Yet.  Still working on that... let me know if you're in the area, we'll totally make this happen.

Still, there is going to be - maybe there already is - more leftover food taking over the fridge than you imagined possible.  I always feel like somehow it multiplies on its own... I mean, I couldn't really have cooked all that in the last 24 hours, could I?  I'm sure at some point I would have realized there are only two people living in my house...
