They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.  To me, this means cheese.  I’ve come to believe that cheese is basically the key to a man’s heart.  But you know what?  Women like food, too.  And what food do women swoon over? 

You guessed it.  Wine and chocolate.

And I do mean both together.  If you have both, it’s a magical thing, is it not? 

The other cool thing about combining the two here (plus some raspberries, of course) is that you’ll be hard-pressed to find a dude who isn’t head over heels for it, either.  I mean, it’s so dang amazing that it could probably stop all thought and speech for a few minutes.

Sometimes, the entire first 15 minutes of my morning is spent lying half-awake in bed.  I’m trying to pretend there’s no such thing as having to get out of bed and be an adult.  Also wishing for the cat to have a snooze button.

This morning though, I got right up, stretched, put on my Fitbit (can’t let my family win!), made some coffee (to become a whole person), heated a couple of these delicious things for my hubby’s breakfast, and then whipped up a batch of Peanut Butter-Raspberry Swirl Bars.

Um, did you catch that?  All of that was the first 15 minutes of my day.  Quite possibly the first 10.

5 Healthiest Birthday Recipes

My birthday was this Monday, hence it is the beginning of my Birthday Week.  It is the week where I am the Queen of the world, and nothing can go wrong, and calories don’t count at all.

Or, at least, it would be if I could have all the wishes those darn birthday candles are supposed to give me!  I mean – if those wishes ever worked out, I might even have that pony by now…

But, since the world still works the way it did before my birthday week (guess how old I am!?) I have to concede that healthy eating – and, you know, obeying the laws and all – is still important. 

Imagine that if all those wishes did come true, and I decided take full advantage of them:  You might see me running down the street with a couple dozen boxes of apple-pie filled doughnuts, (oh, yes, there are such things!) having just stolen them from the nearest bakery, and commanding a passing limo driver to halt in his path so he could drive me around while I stuffed my face with them.

Mom’s Lemon-Raspberry Cheesecake

Fall has finally started getting into swing around here, and, with temps dropping (into the high 80s) and our home AC becoming increasingly dormant, I even broke out the fall decorations and baked a thing or two with nutmeg in it.  It was almost, almost, like seeing a change in seasons.  Whoa.

Which is why, someday, in the near future… you will see things with pumpkin, ginger, and the like, in them.  A tale of things to come.  But for now, you get my favorite cheesecake.  I’m sure we will throw in a little pumpkin-cheesecake action in there soon enough, but for my first cheesecake recipe, it’s the best or bust.
