And just like that, summer as we knew it was gone.  With it went 95-degree swimming pools, driving free of 15-mph school crosswalk zones, and the long days that woke you up at 5 am and allowed 8 pm to look early enough for happy hour.  At least, that’s how we in the valley of Arizona could tell that fall had taken summer’s place. 

But, despite the lack of hard evidence for seasonal change, Arizonans are known for fiercely taking the concept of fall into their own hands. 

Fall decorations begin to appear in and on homes from the very second August is over.  The scent of apple-cider air fresheners wafts through the air.  Everyone is simply rabid for pumpkin spice lattes… and, well, anything “pumpkin” at all.

It hasn’t been up long enough to get nominated for anything… yet.  But just wait – who knows?

I mean, among movies about smoothies made at home on computers that have barely enough memory to edit a few minutes of film?  I have to say, it is just stunning.  And I’m counting the seconds until someone realizes I have incredible talent on film and throws money at me to just host my own dang FoodNetwork show, already.  No bigs.

I’ll stop waving my oversized toque now so you can instead appreciate the fact that I made you breakfast.  For, like, a week.

I don’t mean to brag.  I’m really not trying to rub it in… but it looks like winter has already passed here in Southern AZ. 

I know that the Northeast is in the midst of digging itself out of the snow right now and all.   I’d take some of it over here if that’d help!  And I know I should be happy about the weather here.  Plenty of people are ecstatic that it’s warm again… but I’d honestly love for our mild winter to stick around a little longer!

So the alternative for us Tucsonans is to head TO the snow.  AZ-kid or not, I’ve always loved me some good skiing, which means a 4 – 12 hour drive depending on whether we want to hit Arizona or Colorado slopes.
