Layered Butterscotch-Pecan Brownie-Bars

Christmas Day.

In Norway, people are lighting Yule logs; in Germany, children are searching their shoes for gifts; in Mexico, they're breaking pinatas; in Lebanon, they're eating sheep; and in America people are ripping through packaging and eating... a lot.

Well, each statement is true at least somewhere in each of those countries - but the main point of all Christmases, everywhere that Christmas is celebrated, is that families are together and people are sharing with each other.

2 Hot Drinks to Warm the Soul

2 Hot Drinks to Warm the Soul

On the 2nd day of Christmas, FitCakes gave to me 2 hot drink recipes!

When the weather outside is frightful, there's almost nothing better than to cozy up inside with a steamy mug of something delicious.

Now I imagine you are wondering just how I am going to justify putting tasty/alcohol-infused libations on my healthy food website.  Or maybe not?  Okay, so I'll admit, they may not be healthiest of all things, and drinking one's calories is not generally recommended for weight-loss purposes.

You could legitimately say I get my kicks watching peoples' faces opening the stuff I thoughtfully picked for them.  Does this make my gift-giving a little selfish, in a way?  Probably.

In Tucson, there are a scarcity of cozy-weather days.  The past week though, has been a rare week full of cozy-weather days.  Full-on robe-and-slippers stuff.  Hot cocoa has finally begun to sound like a good idea.  I think it's awesome.

No, it's not like we've got piles of snow - or even piles of leaves, for that matter - but it's been rainy and cold, as if to make at least a half-hearted attempt at winter.  If you hadn't noticed before, my culinary cravings are often inspired by the weather.  And as much as I've tried to get into the holiday baking and hot foods these past few months, it's only been the last few days that the climate has become more... appropriate.
